THE EU AFRICA, CARIBBEAN AND PACIFIC REGION WORKING ON NEW AGREEMENT

The EU ACP are negotiating a new agreement that would replace the Cotonou Agreement. Under the Cotonou Agreement which ends in 2020. During the implementation of the Cotonou Agreement, although written into the agreement, insufficient involvement and meaningful participation of civil society took place.  Getting civil society and small and medium-sized business sectors involved in decision making, action and the implementation of programs in any new agreement is important to create the needed to changes to advance development in the ACP region.

Youth leaders, small business leaders and other civil society actors need to lobby governments and participate in negotiations to get better deals for our key sectors . We must not allow our food and nutrition security to be in the hands of multinational corporations whose first motives is big profits.

We know that in the ACP region, we need to lobby for the strengthening of technical and vocational education would equip young people with skills and ensuring that ICT technology is assessable to everyone including farmers. Ultimately, the goal is for our young people to have the technical skills not only to serve in their countries but worldwide.
