Consultation on farmers approach and leadership on climate change

ECTAD Caribbean to begin Caribbean Farmers consultations with farmers and farm families to discuss their approach and leadership in dealing with climate change climate variations. Farmers/ farm families are on the frontline and are most likely to be heavily impacted by climate change/ climate variation. Droughts, floods, winds, hurricanes, raising sea level, new pest and diseases are causing havoc on farmers’ productions and income in both crops and livestock.

Farmers and their organizations cannot just trust the bureaucrats and politicians to speak and legislate for them. Farmers must provide their own leadership, harnessing practical realities at the farm level and ensuring that these are communicated and help shape appropriate policies in full partnership with our governments. Dozens of farmers, groups and organizations so far have expressed interest in this approach.

The ECTAD Caribbean volunteer team is putting the program together and focus will be on articulating good practices and key challenges at the farm level. Partners and technical volunteers who will be or persons interested in becoming involve in these exercises, please contact us.
